Best Budget Lakefront Hotels in South Tahoe
Lake Tahoe is one of California’s greatest destinations. Its deep blue waters attract visitors in both summer & winter ~ as they’ve got some of the state’s finest ski resorts. No matter which season you’re staying in, the best place to stay (unless you’re skiing) is right on the lake. But that can cost a small fortune! Whether you’re a family on a budget, a solo traveler, or a couple who’d rather spend money on adventures: here are the “Best Budget Lakefront Hotels in South Tahoe!”
Emerald Bay is just one stop on a scenic tour around Lake Tahoe ~ read this article to find some of my other favorite spots. Or read about great brunch spots in South Tahoe…

Budget Lakefront Hotels in South Tahoe
Of the three hotels listed below (that are typically less than $200/night!), I wouldn’t exactly call any of them luxurious ~ though the condos at Lakeland Village Resort are definitely comfortable. You’re sacrificing a bit of luxury to have these prime, lakefront locations…
- Lakeland Village Resort at Heavenly ($165+/night) = Great for Ski Getaways & Large Groups Who Need Space: An upscale condo resort that sits on 19-acres of prime lakefront; all rooms have kitchens & flat-screen’s, fireplaces, & balconies ~ some have lake views. The large size of the condos makes it ideal for families & larger groups. Enjoy two lakefront pools & hot tubs, fitness center & sauna, a private mile-long beach with pier, & a Kid’s Camp in the summer.
- Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge & Spa ($142+) = Great for Romantic Getaways (On a Budget) with AMAZING Beach Area: Two blocks from Lake Tahoe Boulevard & two miles from Heavenly Ski Resort ~ you’re steps away from restaurants, shops, & of course, the lake. Their beach area is HUGE & private. Rooms here are rustic & a little old-fashioned, so if glitzy is your thing: stay elsewhere. But if you’re just looking for a simple room with a great location (& great BED): this is your spot.
- Camp Richardson ($50 to camp, $95+ for hotel & cabins) = The Best Spot for Families on a Budget!! HOLY CRAP does this place get busssyyy in the summer!! There’s an ice cream shop, General Store, historic hotel, camping, cabins for rent, families on bikes, & popular Pope Beach. Camp Richardson is further from the casinos & closer to Emerald Bay, on the south-east side of the lake. If you’re a family looking to engage in all kinds of outdoor fun: stay here!! If you’re a solo traveler or couple looking for a romantic getaway: stay elsewhere.
“We loved our stay in Lakeland Village. We had a cozy 3-floor apartment with full kitchen (#515). Easy check-in/check-out. It seems like you’re living in the forest, but still close to stores & restaurants. The location is perfect if you’re going to ski at Heavenly, only a few minutes drive. We will definitely come back again!”

“Absolutely adorable cozy & affordable. Seriously one of the best places I’ve ever stayed in South Lake Tahoe, & the views can’t be beat. We got a full beach-view from our room, looking out onto Tahoe Lakeshore’s private beach area. Rooms are super comfy & have perfect cabin vibes. For it not being an upscale hotel, beds were beyond comfortable. We can’t say enough good things about our stay here this weekend.”

So helpful. My boyfriend and I are looking for a romantic spot to stay on the lake in Tahoe – I had no idea there were hotels for under $200/night! That’s amazing.
Thanks, Bonnie! And yes, it’s quite shocking that you can still find such a deal in Tahoe…especially given inflation!
