Where to Stay in a Traitors-Like Scottish Castle
I recently discovered the Peacock TV show, “The Traitors.” It’s like a game of real-life “Clue” ~ that’s being played in a real Scottish castle! Every night, one of the cast members gets “murdered.” And then the next day: everyone tries to figure out who the *murderer* was, aka who are “The Traitors.” It’s such a fun show! And the glorious Scotland setting just adds to the drama. While you can’t stay at Ardross Castle, where the show filmed: we’ll find out “Where to Stay in a Traitors-Like Scottish Castle!”
Adross Castle featured a few things that we’re also looking for in our Scottish castle stay:
- A grand hilltop setting with beautiful views,
- Cozy interior rooms for drinking & chatting,
- And a location by a river or lake.

Photos of Traitors-Like Scottish Castles…
I’ve done all the heavy lifting for you in finding an amazing Scottish castle stay! I weeded through over 20 castles….& only FOUR made the cut. They’re grand, well-reviewed, set in beautiful countryside ~ & most importantly: they’re not hard to get to!! There are some glorious hotels, such as Glengorm Castle (set on the Isle of Mull)….but they’re soooo remote: it would be very difficult to reach them.
So here are four of Scotland’s best castle hotels (ALL which happen to be pet-friendly!), that will make you feel like a cast member in “The Traitors….”
Special Features of Crossbasket Castle:
- Located just outside of Glasgow;
- Pet-friendly;
- Beautiful, manicured grounds with rivers & waterfalls;
- 3 miles from East Kilbride Golf Club;
- Acclaimed chef-run restaurant serves lunch, dinner, & “Afternoon Tea.”

Special Features of Neidpath Castle:
- Located just south of Edinburgh;
- Pet-friendly;
- Stone tower house dates back to the Middle Ages;
- Popular wedding venue & filming location;
- You can stay in Cottages, their Barns Tower, Barns Library, or Queen Mary’s Chamber.

The Most Luxurious Scottish Castle Hotels…
Those first two castles are close to Glasgow & Edinburgh, making for easy drives. And while lovely, if you travel just a little further out: you’ll find two of Scotland’s most luxurious, five-star properties….
Special Features of Glenapp Castle:
- Luxury five-star hotel set 90-minutes south of Glasgow, on the ocean;
- Pet-friendly;
- Baronial-style castle set on 36 acres;
- Full Scottish breakfast is included, & their fine-dining restaurant serves lunch, Afternoon Tea, & a 6-course dinner;
- Archery, croquet, tennis, mountain biking, & coastal walking paths are on or near the property.
See the lovely Garden View or Sea View rooms at gorgeous Glenapp Castle.
Special Features of Inverlochy Castle:
- Luxury five-star hotel located two hours north of Glasgow, in the Scottish Highlands;
- Pet-friendly;
- Set by River Lochy & the popular Ben Nevis mountain range;
- Full Scottish breakfast is included, & their restaurant serves modern British cuisine;
- Try out their Billiards Room, read a book in one of their lounges, wander through their gardens ~ or have the staff arrange golf or a boating excursion.
“Inverlochy is such a magical hotel, with incredibly friendly & welcoming staff, delicious food (we had breakfast & their 5-course tasting menu every night), & beautiful grounds. We made use of the snooker table & row boat, & felt utterly pampered & at home. Thank you for an incredible experience.”

Where to Stay in a Traitors-Like Scottish Castle
Bottom Line: If I had a limited amount of time in Scotland ~ I’d stay at Crossbasket Castle ($248), since it’s so close to Glasgow & Edinburgh. BUT, if I had more time: both Inverlochy ($640) & Glenapp Castles ($500) are truly bucket-list worthy destinations. It would be amazing to spend several days at each castle….wallowing in the luxury.
