Where to Stay in Hood River

Overview of Hotels in Hood River
- Best Hotels for Families in Hood River: With a fantastic waterfront location ~ the Best Western Hood River Inn ($$) is my top choice for families. Rooms are large, with many offering kitchens, making it a great choice for larger groups. It’s pet-friendly, & they’ve got a nice outdoor pool & hot tub with river views. Also great for families (& couples), is the dramatically-located Westcliff Lodge ($$). With seven acres overlooking the Gorge, this family-run hotel has large rooms, many with river views ~ & lots of room to explore outside.
- Best “In-Town” Hotel Choice: If you prefer staying right in town & walking to morning coffee, check out historic Hood River Hotel ($$). Built in 1888, the hotel has been updated with a hip new lobby & modern-everything. Rooms are smaller than at the Best Western, but more chic. And you won’t need to drive after dinner, as most of the town’s great restaurants are walkable from this hotel. Check prices here.
- Best Bed & Breakfast in Hood River: For quaint & charming, you can’t beat Inn at the Gorge ($$). With just five rooms, a beautiful garden, & pretty terrace to sip champagne on: this is the most intimate hotel choice. A fabulous breakfast awaits in the morning, & you can walk to town from the Inn. Great choice for couples or solo travelers.
- Most Romantic Places to Stay in Hood River: Columbia Gorge Hotel & Spa ($$) & Columbia Cliff Villas Hotel ($$). Both have stunning cliffside locations with incredible views ~ perfect for romance. The grounds of Columbia Gorge are so lovely, they often host weddings during summer months. What distinguishes the two hotels: Columbia Gorge has its own waterfall + a historic feel & beautiful grounds. Columbia Cliffs doesn’t offer the same pretty gardens, & doesn’t have a restaurant or room service.
But beds are comfy & views are lovely.

Your article helped a lot. Our family ended up staying at the Best Western on the river and had a great time. It was an ideal spot for us to enjoy Hood River. Hoping to make it out to Bend soon!
So glad to hear that, Anna! Hood River is so great, especially in the summertime! xoxo
My boyfriend and I just returned from a romantic weekend at Inn at the Gorge – what a fantastic stay! We’re hoping to return again this summer and enjoy the Hood River Fruit Loop. Thanks, Fallon
Thanks for the feedback, Fallon! : )
I stayed solo recently at the Society Hotel Bingen, and it was an awesome place to explore the Gorge from. I moved to Portland and don’t know many people in the city. How did you make friends when you lived there? For reference, I’m in my mid-30’s.
Hi Regina, thanks for the feedback about the Society Hotel! It looks like such a cool spot. As for making friends in Portland, I found it a pretty easy place to meet people! My friend & I ran a Women’s Bootcamp, & so we literally met hundreds of cool ladies that way. Also, my friend had grown up in Portland ~ & so she introduced me to many of her high school friends…which opened up a really wide, co-ed social circle. I also played indoor soccer & went out a lot/went to a LOT of Portland Trailblazer games…so I was definitely “in the mix!” It might be harder for me to make friends now, as I don’t go out as much ; ) But coffee shops, wine bars, shopping on 23rd, getting involved with local clubs: there are a lot of ways to make friends there, & there are lots of people your age! Good luck : ) xoxo Noelia
Our family lives in Portland and we love staying at the Best Western every few months – it’s our little getaway spot! Not necessarily glamorous, but the views and location are priceless.
Hi Allison, thanks for your comment! It’s nice to have a place that your family loves returning to…& Hood River is such a charming place! Definitely has “vacation” vibes : ) xoxo Noelia
How far is it from Bend to Hood River? And is it a difficult drive through the mountainS?
Hi Allison, thanks for your question! It’s about a 3-hr drive from Bend to Hood River. And yes ~ some of the drive is through the mountains! You’ll pass right by Mt. Hood, actually. If you’re driving in spring, summer, or fall: it’s a beautiful, fairly easy drive (with little to no traffic). Winter can definitely be trickier, so if you’re traveling then ~ use TripCheck.com to check out the cameras over the mountain passes. xoxo!
