Where to Stay in San Miguel de Allende!

When I visit a city for the first time, I make a point to visit every hotel that I’d planned to stay at ~ so that I’ll know which hotels are the best of the bunch.  And San Miguel de Allende was no exception.  This city simply invites strolling (despite its steep hills!), & many of the city’s top hotels are located within reasonable walking distance of each other.  So, from the most high-end luxury hotels…like the Belmond, to more reasonably-priced places like where I stayed, at Casaluna Boutique Hotel: we’ll discover “Where to Stay in San Miguel de Allende” ~ for all budgets!

Something to Know About San Miguel de Allende: While Mexico is often known for cheap hotels, San Miguel is NOT where you’ll find them. Yes, you can still get a lovely room for around $100/night (like where I stayed) ~ but most hotel prices here rival those in the States.

The value you get here though is exceptional.

Overview of San Miguel de Allende Hotels

Casa de Sierra Nevada, Belmond, Where to Stay in San Miguel de Allende, Girl Who Travels the World

The Belmond offers some of the most gorgeous views in town, from elegant rooms…

  1. Casa de Sierra Nevada, A Belmond Hotel ($$$$) Intimate 5-Star Hotel Located by Main Church.  This is one of San Miguel’s true luxury properties.  The hotel sprawls across several city blocks, with different restaurants (including a *hidden* rooftop speakeasy) in each building.  When I visited, guests were mainly couples.  Expect elegant furnishings + all modern amenities, intimate outdoor pools, & some of the friendliest staff in town.
  2. Rosewood San Miguel de Allende ($$$$) Incredible Luxury Hotel Down the Hill from La Parroquia.  This is the ultimate luxury property in town.  If you want butler service: you’ll find it here.  Airport transfers?  No problem.  Their grounds are lovely & filled with flowers.  Rooms are as elegant as the Belmond ~ but a little more modern.  And for restaurants: you’ve got a gorgeous rooftop bar, wine cellar, fantastic main restaurant, & casual poolside eatery.  It’s a 10-15-minute walk uphill to reach La Parroquia.  Check prices at the Rosewood on Expedia.
  3. Casaluna Boutique Hotel ($$) = Beautiful Courtyard Hotel with Perfect Location + Reasonable Prices!  This is where I stayed as a solo female traveler & loved it.  The hotel is set back from the street, & you enter through a locked gate (staff buzzes you in) ~ which made me feel perfectly safe.  There’s no restaurant, but because of the hotel’s central location: you’re steps from amazing coffee & great rooftop bars.  My room was huge, with a large king bed, lovely tiled floor, & large bath with soaking tub.
  4. Casa 1810 Parque Hotel Boutique ($$$) = Spacious Rooms + Amazing Staff with Gorgeous Rooftop Bar.  A mid-range hotel with hip furnishings + rustic Mexican art = a great combination.  Their trendy rooftop bar sets them apart, as you can simply walk upstairs for great food & entertainment.  Rooms are spacious, some with brick walls ~ lobby & rooftop bars are oh-so chic.  Check prices here.
  5. Live Aqua Urban Resort ($$$) = Chic New Retreat in the Hills of San Miguel.  One of the city’s newest hotels, this is a magical bohemian retreat, set in the hills above La Parroquia.  Live Aqua rivals wellness retreats in the States: it’s that chic.  Amenities include Smart TV’s, beautiful wood beams, room service, a high-end restaurant, bar, & terrace.  A gorgeous outdoor pool, spa, sauna, & hot tub with a sundeck round out the offerings at this hip yet peaceful retreat.

“Just returned from a week at the Rosewood San Miguel. I highly recommend the Private Residence program. Our Butlers were world-class. We played Ventanas three days, good course. Dinners were Fatima, Atrio, Casa Notre, The Restaurant & Salvajes.

Unsure if any other city could provide 5 dinners at that level.”

Casa 1810’s rooftop bar is a stand-out!

“Fantastic location & service! Casa 1810 is a gem. The hotel is contemporary within a centuries-old facade. Breakfasts were delicious, but our favourite meal was Tradito de Atún (tuna sashimi) & Ribeye Tacos, the best we’ve ever devoured!  Definitely recommend to anyone visiting!”

Best Hotels in San Miguel de Allende

If you love the charm of San Miguel ~ Oaxaca & Guadalajara are two of my other favorite “inland” Mexico destinations.  When the beaches get crazy hot during the summer, these cities maintain temps in the 70’s & 80’s….
