Where to Stay in Rome’s Historic Center?

Rome’s Historic Center (Centro Historico) is considered a UNESCO World Heritage site, & is packed with some of the city’s most famous landmarks.  The Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, & the Colosseum (made even more famous by the movie “Gladiator“) are ALL located in this area.  For my money: this is the place to stay if you’re a first or even second-time visitor to the city!  Let’s get a quick run-down of where to stay in Rome’s Historic Center?

• Hotel Nazionale Roma ($$$) = Cute 4-Star Hotel by the Pantheon + Trevi Fountain:  If you want to be super close to Rome’s major sights: this is a great choice.  Nazionale overlooks the pretty Piazza Montecitorio; many rooms are mini-suites, some with jacuzzi tubs.  There’s a free breakfast buffet + a nice bar/lounge: but this hotel’s true gift is its near-perfect location, perfect for walking to Rome’s most famous sights.
• Palazzo Navona Hotel ($$$) = Swanky 4-Star Hotel with AMAZING Rooftop Views!  Located by the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, & Piazza Navona: this is the place to stay if you want an amazing rooftop bar with VIEWS!!  Rooms are sophisticated & elegant, & there are ENDLESS restaurants nearby.  They also have Family Suites, if you need a larger room.  Check prices here.
• Princeps Boutique Hotel ($$) = Stylish 3-Star Hotel by the Colosseum:  Located further south in the Historic Center, by the Colosseum: many rooms have incredible views of Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore.  Rooms are clean, stylish, & airy ~ & guests rave about the breakfast & accomodating staff.  Sound-proofing in rooms is excellent, making it great for getting a good night’s sleep.
