Where to Stay in Punta Arenas, Chile!

When I visited Patagonia, there was so much to see: I ended up staying for over a month!  I hiked all over Torres del Paine National Park, explored El Calafate, & discovered darling El Chalten ~ which is my favorite place to hike in Patagonia.  But today’s article focuses on Punta Arenas ~ one of the southernmost cities in Patagonia.  It’s the jumping-off point for adventures in Antarctica & Torres del Paine, & here we’ll learn where to stay in Punta Arenas, Chile!

Pretty Punta Arenas.

What is Punta Arenas Known For?

  • It’s located at nearly the very southern tip of Chile, along the Strait of Magellan;
  • Punta Arenas is a popular gateway for Antarctic exploration;
  • It’s also a major hub for touring Southern Patagonia, including Torres del Paine National Park;
  • Famous for its colorful roofs, the penguins on nearby Magdalena Island, & for exploring the Falkland Islands.

And beautiful ocean views…

“[Hotel Cabo de Hornos] is an excellent hotel. Stayed before my cruise on the fjords of Tierra del Fuego, & it was great. The hotel is huge with lovely decoration, and very clean. The location couldn’t be better, it’s right in front on the prettiest plaza & a 5-minute walk to the port.

Highly recommended!”

I love their rooms! This is where I would stay. Photo: Wilderness Travel.

“Our stay at La Yegua Loca was nothing short of wonderful. The hotel is a beautiful tribute to Patagonia’s ranching history — every detail tells a story. You can feel the spirit of Magallanes in every corner.  And the food — simply outstanding. Breakfast was generous & delicious. The cuisine alone would be worth a visit.

This is a special place — beautiful, comfortable, & filled with warmth. I’d come back without hesitation & recommend it to anyone visiting Punta Arenas.”
