Where to Stay in Puerto Natales, Chile
Most people have probably never heard of Puerto Natales, Chile. But if you’re researching a trip to Patagonia: chances are, you have. That’s because it’s the closest city to Torres del Paine National Park ~ one of Patagonia’s major highlights. The hike to the “Towers” of Torres del Paine is the #1 favorite hike of my life….because the pay-off at the end is SO huge. Unless you’re staying inside the National Park (which can be expensive), it’s best to stay in nearby Puerto Natales, & bus or drive into the park. So let’s find out where to stay in Puerto Natales…
Getting Oriented in Patagonia
Patagonia is a HUGE area: it’s really an entire region, spread across two countries ~ both Chile & Argentina, in their southern-most tips. All three cities below are great places to base, as they’re close to many epic Patagonia adventures & “Bucket List” hikes.
- 1) Puerto Natales, Chile = Closest major city to Torres del Paine National Park (but still about a 90-minute drive to the park);
- 2) El Calafate, Argentina = Close to Perito Moreno Glacier & other Patagonia adventures;
- 3) El Chalten, Argentina = At the base of several hikes, including the epic Mount Fitz Roy hike.

Overview of Puerto Natales Hotels
Accommodations below are listed in order ~ starting with the least expensive. When I stayed in Puerto Natales, I was there for 10 days: & stayed in five different places! I really wanted to get a feel for the place…& found the town very charming.
- Hostel Last Hope ($35+) = Great Place to Meet Hiking Buddies + Friendly Owner! When I first arrived at the Puerto Natales bus station: I trudged downhill with all my stuff & landed here ~ don’t let the name scare you! I found a young & helpful owner, Diego, who helped with all hiking arrangements. There’s a really communal vibe here, which is fostered by Diego. I stayed in a bunk room with 3 other girls, & ended up hiking Torres del Paine with my new Irish friend, Siobhan.
This is a great place to save money & meet people in Puerto Natales!
- Yagan House Hostel ($77) = Cozy Hostel with Breakfast Included! This centrally-located hostel offers a delicious breakfast that starts early, hot water, comfy beds, a kitchen where you can cook your own meals, & they also have gear for rent. Add to that a cozy shared living area & friendly owners: & you’ve got one of the most popular hostels in Puerto Natales ~ that has a quieter vibe than Last Hope Hostel, which is a little more social.
- Sheuen Patagonia ($110+) = Clean & Modern Accommodations with a Great Rooftop Area: They serve delicious free breakfasts here, & their rooftop has wonderful views of town & the water. There’s free Wi-Fi, shared or en suite bathrooms, flatscreen TV’s, a lounge, & a lovely sitting area in their back garden. A slightly longer walk to town: but a safe, quiet location.
- Keoken Patagonia B&B ($122+) = Small, Family-Run B&B with Amazing Hosts: Located on a quiet, residential street that’s easily walkable to town, Mr. Rodrigo will welcome you here with his overflowing hospitality. This was the last place I stayed, & my favorite! Rooms are spacious & very comfy, with great beds & beautiful shared living areas. Rodrigo can arrange tours for you, & will likely chat over a delicious breakfast with you. Felt like staying in someone’s home!
- Vinnhaus Hotel ($169+) = Elegant Boutique Hotel with Attached Coffee & Wine Bar: This was the second place I stayed in Puerto Natales, & back then: it used to be a hostel. Now, it’s an elegant 8-room hotel that’s family-run, offering personalized service, luggage storage (while you trek), super comfy beds, high-end furnishings, & killer coffee in the morning…plus yummy breakfast offerings!
If you like a boutique spot right in the heart of town: stay here.
“What a great place to stay! Vinnhaus is a beautifully curated property in the heart of town with terrific rooms. Restaurant is stylish & comfortable. Breakfasts as good as anywhere ~ with freshly cooked pastries, excellent coffee & home-made granola. Personal service with owners is a joy to experience; we can’t recommend highly enough.”

“We had a wonderful stay at Keoken Patagania B&B. Mr. Rodrigo was very helpful, giving us any needed information & an early breakfast. We were able to store our luggage until coming back from the W Trek.
Thank you Rodrigo!”
