Where to Stay in Athens’ Plaka Area!

Every time I’ve visited Greece: Athens has always been the first stop.  Spending two nights there is a great way to start a Greece trip, especially if you’re headed to the Greek Islands after.  And staying in Plaka neighborhood puts you right in the heart of the city ~ within steps from the Acropolis.  On our first night in town, my friends & I sampled limoncello at a local, candy-colored bar in Plaka….a very memorable way to start the trip!  So the question is: where to stay in Athens’ Plaka neighborhood?

Overview of Top Athens Hotels…

• The Athens Gate Hotel ($$) = Affordable 4-Star Hotel with Great Rooftop VIEWS!!  This is a rooftop that will make your friends swoon: let your coffee + OJ perfectly frame the Acropolis on your first morning in Athens.  Walk 3-minutes to the Temple of Olympian Zeus, or 10-minutes to the Parthenon.  Enjoy their free breakfast buffet with a view; rooms are modern, clean, & efficient ~ if a little small. Better-suited for solo travelers or couples.
• Mona Athens ($$$) = Boutique, Bohemian Hotel in the Heart of Plaka:  Located just one minute from popular Monastiraki Square, & steps from the Acropolis: this 20-room hotel has a great location ~ near bars, art galleries, antique markets, & restaurants.  Its muted color palette is sophisticated & serene, mkaing it a great place to chill pre-or-post Greek Island getaway.  Check prices here. 
• A77 Suites, an SLH Hotel ($$$) = All-Suite Hotel with Hot Tubs on Terraces!  Set in a historic building, with contemporary design: A77 has just 12 rooms, ALL suites, with that elevated “home away from home” feel.  Some suites have terraces with hot tubs & views of the Acropolis.  The hotel is surrounded by high-end shops: making it a great choice for those coming to Athens to shop.
• Electra Palace Athens ($$$4) = Beautiful 5-Star Hotel with Rooftop Pool + Acropolis Views:  If you’re looking for spacious rooms in Plaka + a glorious rooftop pool: this is a great choice.  And it’s just a 5-minute walk to popular Syntagma Square.  Swim in the indoor pool at their spa, after enjoying breakfast on the rooftop with Acropolis views.  Their pricing is more reasonable than a typical five-star.  Check prices here.
• The Dolli at Acropolis ($$$$) = Voted the #1 Best Hotel in Greece by Conde Nast:  In terms of five-star luxury right by the Acropolis: The Dolli is a winner.  They have 46 luxury bedrooms + private apartments, a killer rooftop infinity pool, swanky rooftop restaurant, art-filled Salon bar, & even a “Secret” bar.  Many rooms have incredible Acropolis + city views….this is a place to S-P-L-U-R-G-E in Athens!
