Where Do Celebrities Stay in NYC?
Other than Los Angeles, there’s no city in the world where you’re more likely to run into celebs than New York City. From Broadway stars to supermodels strutting the streets, you could literally run into anyone from Tom Cruise to Bella Hadid in New York. But if you’re wondering where to stay for star-sightings in NYC, there are certain hotels where you’re most likely to see them. Here, we’ll answer the question: “Where Do Celebrities Stay in NYC?”
Map of Famous NYC Hotels
All five hotels that I recommend for star sightings are in Manhattan ~ not Brooklyn. And they run the gamut in terms of location: taking you from hip Soho & the East Village up to the swanky Upper East Side…
The Bowery Hotel (Cool)
Mercer Hotel
The Carlyle
The Pierre
The Mark Hotel
Overview of Famous NYC Hotels
- The Mark Hotel ($1,159+/night) = THE Place for Star-Sightings During the Met Gala. Located on Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side, just blocks from the Metropolitan Museum of Art (where the Met Gala is held): this is where you want to stay in the month of May to run into Hollywood’s hottest stars. Everyone from the Kardashians to Anne Hathaway, Paris Hilton, Bad Bunny, Gigi Hadid, & Emily Ratajkowski have stayed here. And because it’s Anna Wintour’s favorite (editor of Vogue, & inspiration for “The Devil Wears Prada“), it remains a favorite with the fashion world & Met Gala attendees.
- The Carlyle Hotel ($1,075+) = Upper East-Side Old-Hollywood Glamour. Located just around the corner from The Mark, across the street from Central Park: The Carlyle has hosted both movie stars and rock stars for years. From Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell to Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Onassis, Princess Diana, Billy Joel, Mariah Carey, John Mayer, Alan Cumming (of “Traitors” fame), Rihanna, Margot Robbie, & Naomi Cammbell: The Carlyle has the most eclectic celeb roster of any hotel. You could run into almost anyone here…
- The Pierre ($576+) = The Ultimate Hotel for Fashionistas with Central Park VIEWS. The Pierre has long been associated with the fashion industry. Also located on the Upper East Side, they’ve hosted fashion icons like Coco Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Barbra Streisand, Gigi Hadid, & most recently ~ Lady Gaga. And though linked with the glitterati: The Pierre is one of the more *affordable* star hotels, with rooms under $1,000/night.
- The Mercer Hotel ($715+) = Sister Property to L.A.’s Chateau Marmont with Hip Soho Location. If you’re looking to see the hottest stars of today: head down to Soho. Leonardo DiCaprio has stayed at The Mercer, along with Kendall Jenner, Hailey & Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake & Jessica Biel, Zendaya, Jay-Z ~ & the Kardashians stayed here for the 2019 Met Gala. This spot is the “King of Downtown Cool,” surrounded by restaurants & bars.
- The Bowery Hotel ($795+) = Secret East Village Hideaway for Some of the Biggest Stars in the World. I recently heard about this hotel on the “Girls Next Door” podcast: Bridget Marquardt just stayed here & raved about it. And she’s in good company: Zayn Malik (of “One Direction”), Gigi Hadid, Jennifer Lopez, Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson, Jude Law, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, & David Beckham have all stayed here.
This is the hotel you’ve probably never heard of….that’s actually the heaviest-hitter in terms of star sightings.
“My experience at The Bowery was tops! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. After check-in they delivered a beautiful bottle of red wine. The room had amazing city views and the bed was soooooo comfortable. I have to say, this is probably the best hotel experience I have ever had.“– Carmella C.

“Understated, low key luxury. Unobtrusive door people keeping a watchful eye. Best location in Manhattan. Beds and linen top tier. Restaurant excellent. The best steak I’ve had in a long time.“
