Where Do Celebrities Stay in Mallorca?
Spain is SUPER popular this year as a summer destination….it feels like I’m hearing about it or seeing photos of it pretty much every day! From bustling Barcelona to my friends who just returned from San Sebastian, to Becca Tilley getting engaged to Hayley Kiyoko by turquoise waters in Mallorca, to celebrities partying all over Ibiza: Spain is the place to be this year. And since two podcasts I recently listened to (Chelsea Handler’s & Chicks in the Office) both mentioned having visited Mallorca, it got me wondering: “Where Do Celebrities Stay in Mallorca?”

It’s not hard to see why stars are drawn to the beautiful island of Mallorca…
Fun Historic Facts about Mallorca: The island has attracted stars since the 1930’s, when famous mystery writer Agatha Christie wrote a novel here! And Princess Grace (aka Grace Kelly) honeymooned with Prince Rainier III here, which says a lot, as they could have gone anywhere in the world…

Ibiza & Mallorca are islands located off the coast of Spain, close to Barcelona (most people hop over via flight from BCN). Mallorca is the larger island, & slightly more mellow; Ibiza is definitely known as a party island.
Overview of Famous Mallorca Hotels

La Residencia’s hillside setting in Deia is STUNNING. Photo: Mrs. O Around the World.
- La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel ($1,218+/night) = The Most Famous Hotel in Mallorca. This hotel has hosted more stars than possibly any in the world. From Princess Diana to Dua Lipa, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Hanks, the band U2, Harrison Ford, supermodel Naomi Campbell, Sting & his wife Trudie, & most recently, “Chicks in the Office” podcaster (either Ria or Fran…their voices sound so similar)! And once upon a time, soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo actually lived in La Residencia, taking over most of their top floor. This is THE hotel to be seen at in Mallorca. Chelsea Handler owns a home just to the north, & the Kardashians also love the little town La Residencia is set in: Deia.
- St. Regis Mardavall ($1,049+) = Gorgeous Resort Right on the Beach ~ & Close to Palma. Cristiano Ronaldo also loves this hotel, vacationing here nearly every summer. Other stars who’ve stayed include Sofia Vergara, Tiger Woods, Megan Fox & MGK, Melissa Joan Hart, & rapper 50 Cent (was this before Chelsea Handler bought her home here)?! The St. Regis is located close to Palma (Mallorca’s major city), on a lovely little bay. If being near the beach is important to you: stay here.
- Four Seasons Mallorca at Formentor ($1,161+) = A Hotel that Has Hosted Countless Hollywood Legends & Historic Figures. Located at the very top of the island, Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, & F. Scott Fitzgerald have all stayed here ~ when it was Hotel Formentor. And Agatha Christie (my favorite writer!) wrote one of her novels on the bay where the hotel sits: Pollenca Bay. Since its been turned into a Four Seasons, everything is top-of-the-line, including the fine dining.
The only downside: you’re pretty far from Palma & its nightlife. This is a great spot for R&R…

“The Four Seasons is easily the BEST resort in Mallorca and I’d say probably the best in Spain. It’s truly perfect. Our Sea-View Suite was just fabulous & the sunbeds added to the terrace meant we spent several hours each day on the terrace relaxing & appreciating the amazing view – we loved it!“– LuxTraveller

Where to Ball on a Budget in Mallorca…
I get it: the properties listed above are super expensive. Is there anywhere you can stay in Mallorca that still gives you that feeling of luxury, but won’t break the bank?
In short: yes.
I’ll give you two options: The Yartan Boutique Hotel ($215+) is located in the top-right corner of the island, & is a chic hotel set in a former 18th-century mansion. Their long lap pool is breathtaking, & rooms are airy & modern.

Another option, & where I’d want to stay: Hotel Creu de Tau Art & Spa ($206+). Also set on the top-right corner of the island, this stunning hotel features an indoor AND outdoor pool (that has incredible castle views), is adults-only, with works of art featured throughout the hotel. When you see their wood-beamed rooms & upscale restaurant: you’ll wonder why this four-star hotel only costs around $200/night….which is a steal on Mallorca!

“I only wish I could have stayed longer in this amazingly beautiful hotel. Creu de Tau’s interior spa with heated swimming pool is a must, & so is the external pool. Excellent breakfast. I loved each & every painting. In fact, it’s like a little contemporary museum, where every piece was chosen & placed with great taste.“

But Where Do Celebrities Live in Mallorca?

Chelsea Handler owns a home by this lovely bay in Port de Soller. Photo: Expedia.
To close out this article, I’ll tell you just a few of the stars who own homes in Mallorca. Brad Pitt owns a villa in Port d’Antratx (on the southern coast), while Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta-Jones own Villa S’Estaca, which is set on 250 acres & is worth a staggering 30 million dollars! Chelsea Handler bought a beachfront “fixer-upper” in Port de Soller, which is just north of La Residencia ~ the island’s most famous celebrity hotel…

So our best chance for celeb-spotting in Mallorca is at La Residencia, it sounds like? Are there any cheaper hotels nearby where we could stay, then run up to La Residencia for dinner, etc?
Hi Stacey, thanks for your question! Yes, I think that La Residencia & the town of Deia are generally the best places for star-spotting on Mallorca. Two more reasonable hotels nearby are: 1) Villaverde Deia, which is very charming, & 2) Hostal Miramar, which has incredible views! Hope that helps : ) xoxo
That’s fun, Andrea! xoxo
