A Natural Deodorant That Actually Works!
This is a travel site….so why am I talking about deodorant, of all things?! Well, just like you need a great deodorant at home, you sure as heck need one on the road! Between long plane rides, trains, buses, hikes, & exploring cities ~ smelling good on-the-go isn’t really a luxury for me…it’s a necessity! That said, I’m SO excited to say that, after years of searching, I’ve finally found a natural deodorant that ACTUALLY works (because most don’t)!
I’d been in Buenos Aires for more than a week (this January 2018), during a sweltering summer, when it dawned on me: I haven’t been sweating!? Despite walking miles & miles every day in the heat & taking (nerve-wracking) tango lessons at night, I realized that my pits weren’t sweaty at all! How could this be? I wondered. Then I realized: I’d brought a new, natural deodorant with me down to Argentina…& it was actually working!!
What a miracle!
A Natural Deodorant that Actually Works!
Why Use Natural Deodorant?
The main reason I prefer using natural deodorants rather than regular ones (like my beloved Old Spice), is because of their main ingredient: aluminum. For years, traditional deodorants have relied on aluminum to prevent sweating. What happens is: the aluminum salts are drawn into the cells that line our sweat ducts. These ducts then swell & are squeezed shut, so that sweat can’t get out. Voila! No more sweating.
What’s the problem with that? The problem is: aluminum is a known neurotoxin. It has been linked to breast cancer (think how close your breasts/chest are to your armpits), as well as diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Think about this: most breast cancers start in the upper, outer part of the breast (closest to the armpit), & research has shown that aluminum compounds absorbed by the skin can cause changes in the estrogen receptors of breast cells.
What you put on your skin gets ABSORBED by your body!!!
Likewise, high levels of aluminum have been found in the brain cells of people with Alzheimer’s disease. A study from St. Louis University found that aluminum contributes to liver toxicity, a large contributing factor in degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
What Ingredients Are in Schmidt’s?
Here’s a list of the ingredients in Schmidt’s Rose Vanilla deodorant, my preferred scent: Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), cocos nucifera (coconut) Oil, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), caprylic/capric triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil), euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) wax, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, natural fragrance, tocopherol (vitamin E; sunflower-derived).
Notice what isn’t in Schmidt’s: there’s NO aluminum, NO parabens (known hormone disruptors), NO propylene glycol, & NO artificial fragrance. Though a deodorant is all-natural, it doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t have a reaction to it. Technically, you could be allergic to anything. Some people writing Amazon reviews of Schmidt’s deodorant did have an allergic reaction to it ~ so by all means, take a look at the ingredients above, & if you’ve had problems with any, then by all means avoid this deodorant.
But hopefully you fall into the majority of people who are able to use this product ~ because their scents are absolutely HEAVENLY! The Rose Vanilla reminds me more of a perfume than a deodorant…the smell is that good. More importantly, it keeps me dry (with no re-application) ALL DAY. Even when I get nervous (because we all know that “nervous sweat” is the worst kind).
What Other Natural Ones Have I Tried?
Oh boy, oh boy…in my quest to finally find the perfect natural deodorant that actually works ~ I think I’ve tried every brand at Whole Foods! Brand like: the Crystal (no odor protection & my pits got wet quickly), Burt’s Bees (sticky & ineffective), & Herban Cowboy’s Dusk line (went on wet & stayed wet). Schmidt’s brand is far & away the first brand that both smells divine & keeps me dry, with zero problems. Hallelujah!!
Natural Deodorant That Actually Works
Though finding a natural deodorant that actually works may sound like an “odd” topic ~ in all seriousness, I hope that it helps steer your routine away from traditional deodorants, & towards a clean, natural one that works for you. I believe that everything we put in & on our body affects us ~ & deodorant is no exception. My goal with this website is not just to have you traveling well, but to keep you safe, healthy, & smelling great while doing so!
