Best Ski-in Ski-Out Resorts in Deer Valley
Similar to nearby Alta Ski Resort, Deer Valley is a ski-only mountain ~ which makes it unique, as only a handful of resorts in the States are ski-only. This is great for skiers, less-so for snowboarders. The main difference between Alta & Deer Valley is: Alta is “rustic-chic,” while Deer Valley represents pure LUXURY. And the good news is: if you’re staying at any of the hotels listed here, Park City is just a quick five-minute drive from Deer Valley, which does allow boarders. All these hotels are so high-end, you’ll be able to shuttle easily to wherever you want to ski or board. With that said, here are the “Best Ski-in Ski-Out Resorts in Deer Valley.”
Find out which of the resorts is my least favorite….
Deer Valley caters towards more discerning clients who appreciate coming back to fine dining & luxurious spas in the evening. And the mountain is great for beginners, as Deer Valley has some of the country’s best ski schools. There’s no terrain park here & a lack of truly expert runs ~ so really, this is an ideal spot for families & beginner to above-average skiers. Experts will likely want to ski elsewhere.
Overview & Map of Deer Valley Resorts
- Stein Eriksen Lodge ($473+/night) = BEST OVERALL: It’s hard to beat the Stein ~ this really sets the “Gold Standard” in terms of luxury and value in Deer Valley. You can get to any type of terrain from their mid-mountain location (without the morning crowds), & kids will love their movie theater & arcade…parents will love their wine cellar & first-class spa.
- Montage Deer Valley ($465+/night) = GREAT FOR FAMILIES: Also located up the mountain like Stein Eriksen, you can ski to greens, blues, or blacks here, & the bowling alley located inside of Daly’s Pub is a hit with kids. But, their Spa Montage is one of the finest in Park City, with its gorgeous indoor pool, redwood sauna, & lots of hot tubs.
- St. Regis Deer Valley ($529+/night) = LOCATED AT MOUNTAIN BASE: As the most expensive hotel listed here, & because you need to fight the crowds at the mountain’s base to get on the lifts: the St. Regis is unfortunately my least favorite hotel in terms of overall value. Rooms are lovely though, & they have a nice spa & pool area.

Best Ski-in Ski-Out Resorts in Deer Valley
1. **Stein Eriksen Lodge ($473+) = Best Value & Best Overall
Situated half-way up the mountain, Stein Eriksen Lodge has long been considered the “Gold Standard” in Deer Valley. They have many repeat customers, & their service is second-to-none. From their mid-mountain position, you can take Quincy Express up to the peak of Flagstaff Mountain (mainly greens & blues), OR Sterling Express up to the peak of Bald Mountain (mainly blues & blacks).
Rooms are beautifully decorated with a “cozy mountain chic” feel & offer jetted, whirlpool tubs; some have fireplaces, hot tubs, & kitchens with separate living areas. Many of their rooms are literally the size of a home. They have a sports bar, cafe, & wine cellar ~ plus two outdoor pools, hot tubs, movie theater, arcade (great for kids), ski storage, & spa with full-service treatments, steam room & sauna.
Closest Ski Lift: Quincy Express or Sterling Express
“Perhaps the best ski resort in the world. Top-notch service, excellent food, world-class terrain for skiers-only, & a mid-mountain location that guarantees a head start from the crowds. Excellent choice for a family ski trip. Easy access to Park City’s restaurants & shops via a reliable hotel shuttle is icing on the cake.
We love the Stein!“

2. Montage Deer Valley ($465+) = Best for Families & Spa-Lovers
Also with a mid-mountain location is Montage Deer Valley, another beloved five-star resort. From the hotel, you can take Empire Express up to Empire Canyon Peak (blues & blacks only), or veer left & take Ruby Express up to Flagstaff Mountain (greens & blues). Similar to Stein Eriksen, this is an amazing hotel for a family ski trip ~ with a very high-end feel. You’ll find luxury linens, marble bathrooms, fireplaces, & balconies or terraces in all rooms. Upgraded rooms add kitchens & living areas.
There’s a fine dining restaurant here, a casual “Burger Bar,” sushi restaurant, & relaxed pub called Daly’s ~ which has a bowling alley that’s very popular with kids. There’s also one of Park City’s best spas: Spa Montage ~ which has over 29 treatment rooms & an amazing indoor pool. Indoor & outdoor pools, saunas, & hot tubs offer all kinds of ways to relax at the end of the day.
If I wanted a “Ski AND Spa” vacation: I’d stay here. Perhaps that’s why the Montage is also the top choice for the Kardashians when they’re in town…
Closest Ski Lift: Empire Express
“This was our first ski vacation, & wow ~ did Montage set the bar high. The resort is beautifully-set, with easy ski-in & out access. Staff is super friendly, making everyone feel welcome. Our kids (7 & 10) had the “best” vacation ever, not only because of the skiing: but because of tubing & daily s’mores, bowling & arcade at Daly’s, billiards, & of course, interacting with Monty & Murphy, the hotel dogs.
The food was amazing, particularly at Apex. There was no wait to get on the lifts, & conditions couldn’t have been better. All in all, we will be back!!”

3. St. Regis Deer Valley ($529+) = Located at Base of Mountain
The St. Regis Deer Valley is the only hotel located at the actual base of the mountain, by many lifts: including Burns, Snowflake, Carpenter, & Silver Lake Express. From here, you can basically get to any run you want ~ greens, blues, or blacks. The drawback: it’s more crowded at the base, so you’ll be fighting crowds more…especially in the morning.
Rooms are contemporary with surround-sound & flat screen TV’s. You also have ski valets & butlers, a fine dining restaurant, wine bar, spa, multi-level infinity pool, & hot tub. And in case you’re wondering where Gwyneth Paltrow stayed during her infamous Deer Valley ski incident: it was at the St. Regis.
Closest Ski Lifts: Carpenter Express (& many others)
The spa & workout room are amazing at the St. Regis. I had the best facial ever! Pool is heated & very nice. Ski-in & out is amazing ~ it was so easy to jump on the slopes. Everyday they had the BEST hot chocolate & local coffee that was fabulous too. The transportation that takes you within five miles of the hotel was also great; all the drivers so friendly… especially John.

Best Ski-in Ski-Out Resorts in Deer Valley
Bottom Line: Whether you’re looking to book a family ski vacation or romantic getaway ~ my two favorite options are the Stein Eriksen & Montage Deer Valley. For rooms around $500/night, you get an enormous amount of value, luxury, & easy ski-in/ski-out access without having to fight the crowds.
And if you’re wanting want to ski Park City, their shuttles can easily drop you off for a day of powder…

Is this the same resort where Gwyneth Paltrow went skiing when she got in that accident and is now being sued? Or was being sued/?
Hey Allison, YES it is! Deer Valley is definitely a draw for celebs like Gwyneth & the Kardashians, as the hotels here are so nice. I’m sure she’s glad the trial is over!
Our family absolutely loves the Stein. It’s mid-mountain location saves so much time when skiing – but frankly, we also love the Stein in the summertime. Great access to biking and hiking, and fantastic cozy/upscale rooms. Love your site!
Hi Emily, thanks so much for your feedback! I agree that the Colorado ski resorts also make for great summertime destinations ~ the Rocky Mountains are so idyllic in the summer! xoxo Noelia
Our family used to stay at the St. Regis, but the crowds really got to us and the service seems to have gone down in recent years. We switched to the Stein last year and loved it! Thanks for the article, the info is right on.
Awesome, Dan! That’s great to hear : ) Enjoy ski season this year! xoxo
