Best Ski-in Ski-Out Hotels by Keystone

Back when I went to CU Boulder, the ski resort my friends & I visited most was fun-loving Keystone, Colorado.  A breezy 90-minute drive from Boulder (& 90 minutes from Denver as well): Keystone is one of the easiest resorts to access from Denver International Airport, & it’s also a heck of a lot less pretentious than nearby Vail & Aspen.  Keystone is great for “down & dirty” skiers & boarders, & those who care more about having a great time on the mountain than “seeing & being seen.”  But, there are just a few places where you can stay right by the slopes here.  So in this article, we’ll list the best ski-in ski-out hotels by Keystone!

Keystone’s River Run Village is a great family-friendly ski destination, & where you’ll find most of Keystone’s best ski-in/ski-out options.

There are really only three ski-in ski-out hotels in Keystone: & they’re all condo-hotels, meaning you’ll get a bit of variety with rooms in each.  None are truly a “Luxury Hotel,” but Lone Eagle Condos is the closest you’ll get to high-end in Keystone ~ & it’s my top hotel choice here.

1. River Run Village Condos ($164+)

River Run Village Condos is one of your best options for ski-in/ski-out in Keystone, & it’s one of the best values.  Located next to River Run Gondola, condos are about a 4-minute walk to the slopes.  There’s also a “Ski School” here ~ so it’s an easy drop-off if you’ve got kids (or adults) learning how to ski.  Rooms have kitchenettes, & condos are cozy with fireplaces, but most haven’t been updated: so you’ll get a 1980’s kind-of-feel here in most rooms.  BUT ~ if you’re in Keystone simply to hit the slopes & don’t need a super-fancy room: this is a great option.

As its name suggests, River Run Village is closest to River Run Gondola ~ about a 5-minute walk from most condos.

Some rooms at River Run have mountain views; they may not be the height of luxury, but they’re cozy enough!

“But let me tell you about the ski amenities at River Run: that’s the best part. We stored ALL our equipment ~ helmets, boots, skis, poles, goggles ~ in our allocated locker on the 1st floor. So we’d get on our ski clothes, take the elevator down to the lobby, head to the locker room, grab our gear, & put it all on by the warmth of a fire. Then we walked out the door & in three minutes ~ we’re in line at the gondola!”

2. The Timbers Condos at Lone Eagle ($247+) = Perfect for Families!

The Timbers Condos are within the same complex as Lone Eagle Condos (detailed below), & they’re both close to River Run Village.  Similar to River Run, most rooms are a little dated ~ though some are large & beautifully appointed: it’s a bit of a grab-bag here.  But all have well-appointed kitchens, & you’ll find indoor & outdoor pools here, as well as a hot tub, sauna, & steam room.  Ski lockers are located on the first floor, while the bridge to the ski area is located on the second floor; some guests say this is an inconvenience.  Also note: Many reviews commented on VERY HARD beds here, so if that’s a deal-breaker for you, look elsewhere!

Not all condos are created equal: this is Unit 3081 at The Timbers, & it’s elegant & big enough to host a HUGE group!

“Ski lockers are on the 1st floor at The Timbers, & the “Skiers Bridge” to the outside is located on the 2nd floor. For us, this meant going down from the 4th floor to the 1st to get skis, then up to the 2nd floor, across the bridge, & a short walk to the slopes.”

3. Lone Eagle Condos ($250+) = The Most Luxurious Option

Of all three options, Lone Eagle Condos is consistently rated as the most true ski-in ski-out accommodation in Keystone.  Condos here are a little more well-appointed & offer more luxury than either River Run or The Timbers.  Beds are also better here, as are the VIEWS ~ since you’re that much closer to the slopes.  With pool & hot tubs, plus an easy walk to the village & nightlife, Lone Eagle is the best choice for more discerning travelers who’d like a slightly more upscale feel while staying at Keystone.

Rooms at Lone Eagle are a little more upscale than at The Timbers next-door, & you’re also a little closer to the slopes here. This photo is of Unit 3044.

Outdoor pool & hot tub at Lone Eagle Condos.

Lone Eagle is a true ski-in/ski-out accommodation. It has a warmly-decorated communal area with a ski-locker room & individual lockers that are heated to dry your ski equipment. There’s also a steam room, hot tub, & small pool for relaxing in after a day on the slopes. And there’s a nice communal area with sofas & chairs to relax in ~ with free tea, coffee, & most importantly: hot chocolate to warm you up..”

Other Notable Mentions…

On the opposite side of the mountain from River Run are the Chateaux du Mont Condominiums, about 200 yards from the Argentine Lift.  This is near the Mountain House Base Area, which is a quieter part of town than River Run: so if you’re looking for less commotion & your OWN hot tub (every room here has one), this is a great option.

If you want your OWN hot tub while staying in Keystone: book at the Chateaux du Mont Condominiums.

The Springs Condos are also located in River Run Village, similar to the first few options ~ you’ll just have a slightly longer walk to the gondola than the other hotels.  But this property is even more dated than they are, & reviews list more negatives than positives, so it’s not one of my top recommendations for ski-in/ski-out in Keystone.

If you’re looking for an all-around more luxurious experience than Keystone can offer, I highly recommend checking out these amazing ski-in ski-out resorts in Beaver Creek ~ another one of my favorite Colorado ski resorts.  It’s less hectic than Vail & boasts some of the loveliest, most upscale accommodations in the state.

And if you’re looking for a true party town?  Breckenridge takes the cake….
