I lived in Portland, Oregon for seven years before I started “traveling the world.” And my dog, Dylan, was by my side the entire time ~ which means he’s just as familiar with Portland’s great dog-friendly hotels as I am! (And the best walks…of course.) In this post, we’ll look at the best pet-friendly hotels in Portland, Oregon. I’ll show you where they’re located, discover some of their most dog-friendly perks, & tell you where the best walk is close to each hotel!

Map of Best Pet-Friendly Hotels in Portland
I’m highlighting five of the best pet-friendly hotels in Portland. They can all be found on the map below; simply scroll over the red dots.
Heathman Hotel
River's Edge Hotel & Spa
Kimpton River Place Hotel
Kimpton Hotel Monaco
Hotel Deluxe
The Heathman Hotel
First up is The Heathman Hotel, located right in the center of town, on the Park Blocks, next to Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall (ask about the “Secret Entrance” between the hotel & auditorium)! The Heathman may sound especially familiar if you’ve read uber-popular “50 Shades of Grey” ~ but trust me, this hotel is far classier than its association with the book suggests…
To start, you’ll be greeted by doormen wearing signature red, Beefeater outfits: in a nod to British royalty. Upscale Headwaters restaurant is located on the ground floor, as is their GORGEOUS library & sitting area, which features over 2,700 signed copies of books from authors all over the world. But what about your pet? Your pet is MORE than welcome at The Heathman ~ with a pet-friendly menu available, pet beds, bowls, & treats.
But my favorite part? I’ve never heard of this before: when you arrive at The Heathman, they give your pet a temporary collar, with the hotel’s contact info on it ~ just in case your dog somehow gets lost or separated from you. That type of personal care goes above & beyond, & is what separates The Heathman from other pet-friendly hotels.
Rooms are modern & tasteful (the entire hotel just finished up a major renovation), & when I was in the room, I heard virtually ZERO noise; it felt like a sanctuary in the middle of the city.
Price = $185+. Pet Charge = $50 one-time charge.
Best Place to Walk Your Dog Near The Heathman: Go out to the Park Blocks (you’re one block away), & head up the hill towards PSU. The PSU Campus is a great place to walk your dog, with food carts & beautiful trees that are stunning in fall.
Hotel Deluxe
Have you ever had “Afternoon Tea” with your pet?! I must confess: I have not! If this is on your “Bucket List” ~ you can do it at Hotel Deluxe, one of my FAVORITE hotels in Portland. I love their location in Goose Hollow, which is just a tad out of downtown ~ by Providence Park (where Portland Timbers games are held). It’s less hectic & a little more relaxed here….& with less homeless population.
But what I absolutely love about Hotel Deluxe is their nod to classic, old-Hollywood glamour.
The first time I visited Hotel Deluxe, I met friends in the glamorous Driftwood Room (shown below). While walking up the steps, I was greeted by the image of one of my favorite Hollywood stars: Bette Davis. I was enraptured! As for your pets, as Hotel Deluxe is sister-property to The Heathman, your dog will be treated with the same care & amenities. Plus, you have the option of taking in Afternoon Tea together, with all-natural teas & treats!
It’s clear that both Hotel Deluxe & The Heathman aren’t merely pet-friendly ~ they go above & beyond, with their attention-to-detail & whimsical offerings. This puts them at the top of my pet-friendly hotels in Portland list!
Price: $159+. Pet Charge = $50 one-time-fee.
Best Place to Walk Your Dog Near Hotel Deluxe: I used to live in this neighborhood, & my favorite place to walk Dylan was Portland’s famous Washington Park. SW Park Place dead-ends into Washington Park, & from there, you’ve got miles of hiking trails, beautiful gardens, & stunning views of Mt. Hood.
River’s Edge Hotel & Spa
If you want to be out of the craziness of downtown Portland, but still close to everything: stay at River’s Edge Hotel, in South Waterfront. There are many advantages to this location: 1) It’s more relaxed than downtown, 2) It’s set right on the Willamette River, along a nice walking path, & 3) Their beautiful Rosswood Restaurant (formerly Aquariva) is set on the river, & you can enjoy a meal with your dog on the patio.
Or order room service, so…WIN-WIN.
And one of the best things about River’s Edge? If they like to swim, the river is directly across from the hotel! Dylan took a little swim before our 3-hour drive to Bend ~ which was the perfect way for him to cool off & get some exercise. A dog bowl & treats were waiting for us in the room, as well as poop bags….an entire ROLL of them! Not glamorous ~ but highly practical.
Price: $148+. Pet Charge = $50 one-time charge.
Best Walk Close to River’s Edge Hotel: Step right out the front door, turn left, & you’re literally on a path that goes for miles in both directions!
Kimpton Hotel Monaco Portland
(Now the Royal Sonesta)
The great thing about Kimpton hotels? They’re ALL pet-friendly! And they NEVER charge a pet fee!! “If your pet fits through the door, we’ll welcome them!” Which brings us to Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco, which is now called the Royal Sonesta, in downtown Portland. Called “The most beautiful hotel in Oregon,” by Architectural Digest, it’s the most stylish on this list, with red accents, inspired furnishings, & a nod to the eclectic (fitting in Portland).
If you like “boutique & chic,” stay here.
And of course, your pet will too.
As far as pet perks go, here’s how the Kimpton rolls: upon arrival, you & your pup will be greeted by their canine “Director of Pet Relations!” Plush pet-beds, water & food dishes, and courtesy dog bags are ALL provided. But the best part? Kimpton Hotels have NO restrictions on size or number of pets! You can basically have a pet party here. Plus, your pooch can join you for nightly wine receptions.
Price: $183+. Pet Fee = ZERO!!
Best Walk Close to Kimpton Hotel Monaco: Head five blocks east, & you’ll be at Portland’s waterfront. You can walk for miles here!
Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel
Since it’s a Kimpton: you already know it’s pet-friendly. The Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel, located on the waterfront, is my parents’ hotel-of-choice when they come to town. Steps from the hotel is a huge, sloping lawn leading to the Willamette River. During the summer, it’s often used for outdoor concerts & events ~ & it’s the perfect place to take your pup out to play & poop.
Rooms at RiverPlace are a little more masculine & woodsy than the other hotels on the list, with darker accents & a cozy feel. And all the same “pet amenities” as its sister property, Hotel Monaco.
Price: $172+. Pet Fee = ZERO!!
Best Walk Close to Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel: The waterfront path! It’s right on your doorstep…

That rounds out my picks for the best pet-friendly hotels in Portland, OR! We LOVE the Hotel Deluxe! Both for ourselves as a romantic getaway, AND for our dogs. They are always so gracious & welcoming, & though we’ve never tried their “Doggie Tea,” it’s on our list! We didn’t know that they were also affiliated with the Heathman Hotel – we’ll be giving that a try next time. Thanks for the write-up! Mary
You’re welcome, Mary! And love that you LOVE the Hotel Deluxe ~ I couldn’t agree more! xoxo Noelia
