What makes Dooriban such an interesting restaurant: it was started by five Korean & Mexican women, who originally sold their own kimchi. Photo: Trippin.

If you’re wondering which hotels are close to all these great restaurants: check out St. Regis Mexico City (located by Hiyoko & Kasina Cafe), or Andaz Condesa Mexico City (by Via Sol).

Both are fabulous choices, & in walking distance to all kinds of great food.

  1. Dooriban = Corner Korean Spot in Popular Roma Norte.  Started by five enterprising Korean & Mexican women, Dooriban serves up outstanding kimchi, bibimbap, & fried rice with Mexican chiles…to name a few items.  They’re located two blocks south of Plaza Rio de Janeiro, on Avenida Tabasco, in Roma NorteHours: 2PM-10PM. Closed Mondays & Tuesdays.
  2. Hiyoko = Traditional Japanese Fused with Mexican.  Located two blocks from major landmark El Angel de la Indepencia, in the Cuauhtemoc neighborhood: you’ll find sushi, yakitori, & ramen here ~ along with locally-sourced produce.  They’ve become so popular that they’ve opened 20 more restaurants all over Mexico!  Hours: 12:30PM-11PM. Closed Sundays.
  3. Kasina Cafe = South Korean Soul Food in Roma Norte.  Roma Norte is a popular neighborhood!  Especially for good food.  Minae Seo created the menu here, serving dishes she cooked with her mother ~ like buchu jeon (chive pancakes with shrimp), & kkorijjim (braised oxtail with rice & kimchi).  They’re located right by Chapultepec Park, near the Four Seasons Mexico City…where Taylor Swift stays when she’s in town!  Hours: 1PM-10PM. Closed Mondays.
  4. Makan = Singapore Street Food in Colonia Centro.  Here, you might try their braised ayocote beans, spicy laksa noodle soup, or Singaporean chili crab.  Makan is a celebration of elevated street food, run by passionate husband & wife owners: Maryann Yong & Mario Malvaez.  Hours: 2PM-11PM.
  5. Nobu Mexico City = Upscale Asian in Mexico City’s Polanco District.  Polanco is the “Beverly Hills” of Mexico City: so it makes sense that Nobu is here.  This world-wide brand caters to the rich & famous ~ with good reason.  Try their Alaskan King Crab tacos, or Yellowtail with Caviar…& wear your best clothes!  Hours: 1PM-11PM.
  6. Via Sol = Chinese Tapas Bar in Escandon Neighborhood.  Iris Yu is the mastermind here, born & raised in South China.  And she serves up Szechuan-style dumplings, served with four different types of Mexican chiles.  Ummm…yes please!  They’re located just south of Condesa & Roma Norte, by the Andaz Mexico City Condesa, another popular & happening hotel.  Hours: 3PM-10PM. Closed on Mondays & Tuesdays.
