6 U.S. States that are Stunning in Winter!
Visiting the United States during winter can be a fantastic experience, offering a diverse range of activities and stunning landscapes. Whether you’re skiing in the Rockies, enjoying the festive holiday atmosphere in cities like New York, or witnessing the Northern Lights in Alaska: there are travel experiences for everyone across the U.S. But certainly, there are better states than others to fully appreciate winter’s beauty. Here, we’ll hone in on 6 U.S. states that are absolutely stunning in winter!
Here are some of our favorites…
Montana
Known for its breathtaking mountain ranges and vast open spaces, Montana offers serene beauty and outdoor adventures throughout the year – but particularly in winter. Active travelers can enjoy skiing and snowboarding at popular Big Sky Resort, or explore the snow-covered trails of Glacier National Park for a peaceful and scenic experience. Montana’s winter also offers opportunities for wildlife viewing, with the chance to see animals like elk and bison in their natural habitat.
All in all, it’s a captivating place.
Wyoming
Winter is a great time to embrace the rugged beauty of Wyoming: when Yellowstone National Park becomes a snowy paradise for wildlife viewing and snowshoeing (specially-designed snowshoes distribute your weight over a larger area, making it easier to walk).
Grand Teton National Park offers stunning winter scenery, and Jackson Hole is renowned for its challenging ski slopes and vibrant après-ski scene. In fact, it’s often voted among the best ski destinations in the US – it takes just over half an hour to get to the slopes if you fly into Jackson Hole airport, making it great for a quick weekend trip.
Colorado
Yet another destination known for its world-class ski resorts like Aspen and Vail: Colorado is a winter wonderland perfect for skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. The Rocky Mountains provide a stunning backdrop for winter sports enthusiasts, while cozy mountain towns offer warm hospitality and amazing après-ski experiences (Vail has my favorite apres-scene in all of Colorado)!
For a break from skiing, the city of Denver offers a vibrant cultural scene with museums and galleries – a chance to warm up indoors while embracing history, culture and arts.
New York
Arguably one of the most iconic U.S. cities during winter is New York City, with seasonal attractions like the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, ice skating in Central Park, and holiday markets that are famous across the world. Spending time in the city is always a magical experience, but it’s particularly special ahead of Christmas: when the Big Apple buzzes with festive energy.
You can even browse elaborate window displays along Fifth Avenue and pick out dream presents for loved ones.
Vermont
With its charming New England villages and rolling hills blanketed in snow, Vermont is ideal for those seeking picturesque winter landscapes. Enjoy skiing at popular resorts such as Stowe and Killington, or take a scenic drive through the countryside to admire snow-covered bridges and quaint towns.
Make sure you visit a sugarhouse to learn about Vermont’s famous maple syrup production, and taste some for yourself.
Alaska
Winter in Alaska offers a unique experience with opportunities to witness the Northern Lights dance across the night sky. You can explore the vast wilderness on snowmobile tours or via an epic dog-sledding adventure, and visit Fairbanks for a chance to soak in natural hot springs amidst the snowy wilderness.
A winter holiday in Alaska offers many once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
