26 Amazing “She Shed” Design Ideas!
Man caves are soooo 2010….now is the time of the “She Shed!” Whereas man caves are characterized as being rather dark, hidden escapes ~ She Sheds are entirely the opposite: you’ll typically find them out in the garden, surrounded by flowers, with bright, airy interiors & often a very soft, feminine vibe. They’re a great place to read, take a nap, or as Virginia Woolf opined: to simply have a room of one’s own. As I’m thinking about creating a “She Shed” of my own, I’ve been slowly collecting ideas & inspiration, which I’ve had a lot of fun turning into this post: “26 Amazing She Shed Design Ideas.”
Welcome to your very own cozy “She Shed,” complete with beautiful blue hydrangeas! Photo courtesy of Southern Living.

A Tour of Some Spectacular She Sheds…
Let’s take a look at fantastic She Sheds of all varieties: from highly feminine, Shabby Chic abodes, to more simple wood structures, to stained-glass delights, or a wild, rustic retreat. The beauty of a She Shed is you can match it to virtually any style, be it modern, farmhouse, or vintage. And you can also choose to put up a beautiful, all-glass greenhouse instead, potentially adding a day-bed in amongst your collection of flowers. How fun to mix two different genres together….plants & leisure : )
This beautiful, all-white She Shed has a “Shabby Chic” vibe, with a very feminine feel. Photo courtesy of House Beautiful.
If I were going to build a She Shed, this beautiful, all-white one with TONS of windows is what I’d buy. It comes in 6 sizes, making it work for almost every yard.
Make your shed look distinctive at night by by placing outdoor lanterns outside the doors. Photo courtesy of All Created.
This cute little gingerbread-looking cottage almost looks like a dollhouse! And you can find a link to it below…
Find this exact gingerbread cottage on Amazon. If you don’t want it to be so “girly,” you can remove the scalloped trim & replace it with more simple trim.
Joanna Gaines’ “She Shed” is elaborate & more like an outdoor cottage, but we can use hers as dreamy inspiration ~ & then figure out a way to create one for a lot less money! Photo courtesy of HGTV.
I love all the flowers in & around this simple white garden room. Photo courtesy of Surf and Sunshine.
This She Shed is decorated beautifully with a central wreath & several shelves to display books & crafts.
I LOVE this outdoor she shed! It’s got a day-bed for lounging or reading a book, a beautiful wood exterior, & French doors that create an open & inviting space. Photo courtesy of Blush & Bowties.
My favorite thing about the shed above is the day-bed ~ this gorgeous farmhouse day-bed is sooo inviting & works for home or shed.
Most of the She Shed’s we’ve seen are either white or wood-colored: but this turquoise one puts a unique spin on the idea. I also love how they’ve added an outdoor table near the shed & a potting station, plus all the flowers surrounding the area. Photo courtesy of Country Living.
This is less “She Shed” & more “Rustic Retreat” ~ but it’s no less fabulous, & would look great in a more woodsy, country setting. Photo courtesy of The Garden Glove.
Replicate this rustic wood shed with a near-exact match on Amazon ~ you can modify it by adding more windows or beautiful French doors.
I love the indoor/outdoor vibe of this She Shed; the string lights are amazing, & the fact that they’ve created an outdoor “room” off of the shed is a fantastic idea. Photo courtesy of House Beautiful.
Simple outdoor string lights work in almost any backyard, & add a lovely, warm glow to evening events…
This shed has more of a Cape-Cod style exterior with its shingled finish, & the brick path leading to open French doors is an inviting touch. Photo courtesy of Country Living.
Perhaps you’d rather have a pool-house than a shed! This one is much larger than others listed here, is insulated & can be used as an actual ADU or extra room for guests. Obviously, this one will cost significantly more than the typical She Shed! Photo courtesy of the Shabby Creek Cottage.
Avid gardeners may prefer to have a greenhouse in their backyard ~ & there’s no reason why you can’t add a chair in there to make it a bit more like a room! This one has cute raised beds in it & all the clear-glass will keep your views intact. Photo courtesy of Homedit.
Create your own backyard greenhouse & have a safe place to store delicate plants in the winter…& possibly add a comfy chair for reading!
This is one of the more unique sheds: it’s got slightly more of an “upscale rustic barn” vibe than a true She Shed ~ but the old-fashioned interior is a lovely & unexpected addition.
This shed is a wonderful example of a whimsical, colorful artist’s retreat. Photo courtesy of Kindesign.
This is an example of what you can do with a very small space: add a simple loveseat, side table, & lamp ~ then extend the space outside with a small French bistro table.
In an odd twist of fate, my friend & I happened to run across this INSANELY adorable She Shed at a restaurant in Sisters, Oregon this weekend. I love how they’ve used stained-glass windows to add color & create privacy ~ it definitely adds a “cottage” vibe.

Fantastic She Shed Interiors…
Let’s not just look at the exteriors of She Sheds….you can’t forget about the inside! Decide how you want to use it: do you need extra office space & want to create a work space in the garden? How about an artist’s studio? Or an outdoor potting shed, complete with sink, potting area, & dining table ~ like you’ll find in Joanna Gaines’ amazing garden shed. Or perhaps you’d just like a place to read, nap, & day-dream ~ in which case you’ll want to pick a shed that’s large enough to hold either a couch, day-bed….or both.
So this is Joanna Gaines’ “She Shed” ~ though it’s more like a beautiful outdoor room than a shed! If you can’t afford a room this elaborate, replicate it on a smaller scale by creating a small potting station with a wooden sign that says “Perennials” or “Garden” above it.
My friend Lea has coined a new word: “Tropulence,” & this She Shed-interior with its amazing palm leaf wallpaper & collection of tropical plants is a great example of “Tropical Opulence.” Photo courtesy of House Beautiful.
Shop tropical palm wallpaper prints on Amazon here.
This She Shed has a distinct “Shabby Chic” vibe with its floral pillows, white couch, & crystal-chandeliers; ultra feminine. Photo courtesy of House Beautiful.
I love EVERYthing about this interior: from the light blue cabinet color, to the shiplap on the walls, the cute barn door entrance, & the beautiful wood shelving. This is a She Shed dream-come-true…
Consider turning your shed into an office & extra storage area; these cute white shelves & ladder add a lovely way to stay organized & keep the clutter out of your home.
This is the interior of the She Shed at the Sisters restaurant; a gorgeous chandelier is the focal point. And notice that the “roof” is actually just plastic sheeting you can find at Lowe’s or Home Depot ~ which makes actually creating a shed much less expensive than you might think.
Shop modern farmhouse & “Shabby Chic” chandeliers on Amazon here.
This interior represents the height of femininity with its all-white interior, pastel flowers ~ & the books high up on peaked shelves are a wonderful touch. Photo courtesy of Sand and Sisal.
