Video of Zion National Park & Kolob Canyon!

I recently wrote a post called the “Best Scenic Drives by Zion National Park, & this post is a companion to that one ~ as it shows all the beauty we found on those gorgeous drives.  The video starts out in Grafton Ghost Town, which is just outside of Rockville & Zion’s southern entrance, & offers stunning views of the park’s outer ranges.  From there, the video takes you inside the park, then on to some of my favorite, lesser-known Zion adventures: Kolob Terrace Road & Kolob Canyons Road.  The video also shows Zion’s only dog-friendly trail: Pa’Rus, which can be found near the end of this two-minute “Video of Zion National Park & Kolob Canyon!”

The only dog-friendly trail at Zion National Park is this one: Pa’Rus Trail, near the main visitor’s center. You’ll see it in the later half of the video…

FAQ About Driving in Zion National Park

  • Can You Drive in Zion National Park? Yes, you can. Highway 9 runs right through Zion, for 12 miles between the park’s south entrance in Springdale, to its east entrance.  You must pay an entrance fee to drive this stretch of highway.  My big disappointment here was that you could not enter the road up to Angel’s Landing & the Emerald Pools during summer, as only buses were allowed up there.
  • Are There Pull-Outs & Parking in Zion National Park? There are multiple pull-outs available in the park, & I could usually find a spot to pull over when I wanted to take a photo ~ even in summer.  But parking is limited, & the lots were usually full by 8AM, in which case you’d need to shuttle in from Springdale for hiking, etc.
  • What is the Entrance Fee for Zion National Park? $35, when I visited in July 2019.  Or $80 for an Annual Pass to all National Parks.
  • How Far Can You Drive into Zion National Park? 12 miles.
  • What’s the Main Entrance for Zion National Park? The south entrance in Springdale. There are many more services here (including restaurants, hotels, & shuttles) than at the east entrance or the Kolob Canyons entrance, which is accessed off I-15. Kolob has a visitor’s center, but there’s pretty much nothing at the east entrance.
  • Is Zion National Park Pet-Friendly? As with most National Parks, no. There is ONE pet-friendly trail in all of Zion, & it’s right by the main visitor’s center, called Pa’Rus Trail. I took my dog Dylan on it for a short stroll, but the high temps had us back in the car quickly!  If you’re doing one of the longer hikes here, leave your pup(s) behind.
  • Best Places to Stay by Zion National Park: Springdale is your most expensive option, but it’s also got the most choices & a lot of great restaurants. Plus, the views here are OUTstanding!! The La Quinta Inn & Suites Springdale has a phenomenal pool with breathtaking views of the park, & you’re within walking distance of the park entrance. For cheaper options, look in Hurricane & La Verkin.
  • Can You Do Zion & Bryce Canyon National Parks in the Same Day? You can, as they’re only 62 miles apart ~ but that’s if you literally just want to do a quick drive-by & maybe one short hike at each park. This part of the country is so beautiful…why rush it? I recommend staying at least 1-2 full days at each park, to fully enjoy them as well as the surrounding area.
  • Are There Other Beautiful Drives by Zion National Park: YES!! Check this post here for a detailed list.
