Prague in Pictures…

Prague is one of Europe’s greatest cities.  It’s charming, scenic, has loads of character, & some absolutely stunning architecture.  Not to mention: tons of places to enjoy good beer & hearty Czech cuisine!  One of the great delights of Prague is sitting in a sidewalk cafe, enjoying sunset over the Vltava River, with views towards famous, hilltop Prague Castle.  Being in this fabled city, is in some way like being inside a fairy tale…particularly if you’re American, & not used to such a historic & spectacular cityscape.  And since photos really tell the story best, let’s take a look at Prague in pictures…

Take a Walking Tour of Prague…

Prague is the perfect city to walk, stroll, or run through.  Each morning, my friend & I laced up our tennis shoes & ventured out for long runs: excited to see what Prague had to offer.  Our runs informed which parts of town we returned to, for both photos & sight-seeing.

So, take a stroll with us through the streets of Prague…..

Prague is a city of bridges, as the city is split in half by the Vltava River.

Highlights of Prague

As you do your own walking tour of Prague, you can go one of two ways: 1) Follow an organized or guided tour of the city, or 2) Simply meander at your own pace & let Prague reveal itself to you.  We opted for the latter option, going where our running shoes & wandering eyes took us…

We literally stumbled across this “leaning” building while out running: it’s formal name is the “Dancing House.”

The “Dancing House”

The “Dancing House” pictured above is a Frank Gehry-designed office building, with a top-floor restaurant offering great city views.  We didn’t plan to see this famous leaning building, but rather, stumbled across it during one of our runs.  We found it to be a whimsical & fantastic discovery…

There are few things quite so wonderful as getting delightfully lost in a new city.

The Vltava River, Prague Castle, and bridges: just a few of the things Prague is all about…

Prague in Pictures: Prague Castle

Prague Castle is the defining monument of the city’s skyline.  And it’s the largest castle complex in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.  It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a history dating back 1,000 years, to its creation in 880 A.D.  The castle is an ancient & important symbol of the Czech State, comprised of palaces, churches, & cathedrals ~ & these surrounding buildings were some of my favorite parts of the castle complex.

Welcome to the Castle…by way of St. Vitus Cathedral, one of my favorite arched views.

Getting up to Prague Castle is a bit of a hike, but coming down is a bit more fun.  You can really take in the views of the city as you descend stairs that lead back to the Old and New Towns of Prague.

On your way back, you may come across some random sites that defy explanation…

Goodbye, Prague…

After Prague, we hopped on a train & headed south for Vienna, Austria ~ another stunning city that we fell absolutely in love with.  The train from Prague to Vienna took four hours, with beautiful  scenery along the way.  After Vienna, it was off to Budapest, in Hungary ~ an intensely romantic city with a glorious skyline & river views, filled with castles straight out of fairy tales…
